Questions families ask

Helpful answers.

What is a residential care home for seniors?

It is a licensed home in a residential neighborhood that provides room, meals, 24-hour supervision, and help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and medications. In California these homes are called Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs). The small size means more personal attention and a true home atmosphere.

How is this different from a nursing home?

Nursing homes provide round-the-clock skilled nursing in a clinical setting. A residential care home focuses on personal care, supervision, and quality of life in a home environment. When a resident needs medical services, we coordinate with their physicians and outside providers such as home health, therapy, or hospice.

What does your “integrated care model” mean?

We connect everyone involved in a resident’s wellbeing: family, caregivers, physicians, pharmacy, and outside health services. We share observations, coordinate appointments and medications, and keep one up-to-date care plan, so care is consistent and nothing gets missed.

Can my loved one keep their own doctor?

Yes. Residents keep their own physicians and specialists. We help schedule appointments, share updates with the doctor, and follow through on any new orders.

When can family visit?

Family and friends are always welcome. We simply ask that you let us know when you’re coming so we can plan around meals, rest times, and other residents’ privacy.

How is care paid for?

Most families pay privately. Long-term care insurance policies often reimburse residential care, and eligible veterans or surviving spouses may qualify for VA benefits. Medicare generally does not cover room and board in this type of care. Contact us for current rates and we’ll explain exactly what is included.

What happens if care needs change?

We reassess and update the care plan whenever needs change, and talk with you and the physician about options. If needs ever go beyond what we can safely provide, we help your family plan the next step with care and plenty of notice.

What should my loved one bring?

Comfortable clothing, toiletries, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and any mobility aids, plus personal touches like photos, a favorite blanket, or a cherished chair. We’ll share a complete checklist before move-in.
